DAVID MOVIE SONGWRITER ABOUT THE SONGS NOW ON NETFLIX
Grammy-winning songwriter Jonas Myrin wrote Adventure Song, 23, and Rhythm of Grace. Here's the story behind each song.
Jonas Myrin served as Development Music Director for the animated musical epic feature film David and composed the opening and end title songs for the movie.
Released worldwide in December 2025, David became one of the year's biggest animated theatrical releases, grossing more than $82 million and bringing the story of David to a new generation through music and storytelling. In June 2026, David was released on Netflix globally and reached number 1 in the USA on June 5.
JONAS STARTED THE SONGS OF THE DAVID MOVIE AT THE PIANO
Jonas had been part of the David universe long before the feature film arrived in cinemas. Writing the songs "23" and "Rhythm of Grace" for the Young David animated series gave him years to live inside the story, exploring the early life of a shepherd boy from Bethlehem who would one day face a giant and become a king.
When the call came to write the songs that would open and close the full theatrical release, the foundation was already there.
"Working on David was one of those rare creative journeys where the story feels larger than the film itself. One of the first things I said to the team was, 'This is more than a movie, this is a movement.' From the start, we wanted the music to carry the emotional heart of David's journey. Writing the opening and end title songs was a deeply meaningful experience for me, because those moments frame the entire story." — Jonas Myrin
The music was recorded in Budapest with the Budapest Film Orchestra, under music director Jason Halbert.
This clip is from the day I wrote “Adventure Song”, the opening song of the animated musical film DAVID (2025). It’s amazing to think it all started with this simple moment at the piano, and now it is streaming on Netflix, Spotify, Apple Music and all streaming services after breaking box office expectations as the highest-grossing faith-based animated theatrical opening of all time.
THE SONGS OF THE MUSICAL FEATURE FILM DAVID
Jonas wrote three songs for the Young David animated series — 23, Rhythm of Grace, and Adventure Song — before the full feature film arrived in cinemas.

SONGS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN FOR YOUNG DAVID
Twenty Three (23), Young David series / David (2025)
"'23' was inspired by the words of Psalm 23, one of the most beloved passages in the Bible. It captures the quiet trust David had in God as his shepherd, the sense that even when walking through uncertain valleys, he was never alone." — Jonas Myrin
The Young David version features Brandon Engman. In the theatrical film, 23 is performed by Phil Wickham.

Rhythm of Grace, Young David series
"'Rhythm of Grace' reflects another side of David's heart. When you read the psalms, you can feel how deeply David experienced God in the world around him, in the rising sun, the wind, the waves, and the stars in the sky. The song captures that joy and freedom, the idea that God's presence can be found everywhere and that life itself can begin to move to a different rhythm, what I like to call the rhythm of grace." — Jonas Myrin
All three Young David songs were brought to life by Brandon Engman, the voice of Young David.
"Hearing the songs come to life through Brandon was incredibly special. He brought such sincerity and heart to the music, which made the story feel even more alive. Long before David faced Goliath, he was already discovering that music could become a language of faith, courage, and hope." — Jonas Myrin

THE STORY OF DAVID CONTINUES
The animated film David tells the story of a shepherd boy who became a king. House of David, Jonas's other major David project, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, picks up where that journey leads.
In House of David, Jonas wrote and produced three songs for the series, including "Lead Me to the Water," performed by the show's lead, Michael Iskander, and Gabby Barrett. The series drew over 44 million viewers worldwide in its first season and reached No. 1 on Amazon Prime Video.
Together, the two projects trace the full arc of one of history's most extraordinary stories, from a boy in the fields of Bethlehem to the king of a nation. Jonas is the only songwriter to have written original music for both.
